Negotiation doesn’t have to be ‘win-lose’... yet most people feel like they have to ‘fight’ to get what they want in a negotiation. We negotiate ‘all the time’... this discussion will help you become more effective and therefore less reluctant to negotiate for an ideal outcome. This panel discussion will look at the realities of negotiation, how to prepare for a negotiation, how to effectively negotiate without dropping into an argument and what to do when it does dissolve into a battle.

Anthony Moorhouse
CEO, DynamiqWith a strong background in emergency and risk management, Anthony was a Special Forces Counter Terrorism Commander in the Australian Defence Force. Anthony received a military award for leadership during counter terrorism operations in 2004. Anthony worked in Iraq for a year as the security and crisis manager on a US$1Bn civilian reconstruction project, facing daily real-time terrorism issues.
Anthony left Iraq to pursue a vision to create a global emergency management firm that could provide a boutique, but holistic outsourced risk management service to clients around the world. Anthony's role as the CEO of Dynamiq sees him ultimately responsible to the Board for financial performance and leading strategic initiatives and new ventures across Dynamiq's very fast paced business landscape... and he absolutely loves it.
Ian Coombe
Managing Director, Know1Ian Coombe has a broad and deep experience in facilitation and negotiation in not only public bureaucracies and commercial enterprise but also in dealing with difficult people – such as bureaucrats, entrepreneurs, academics, salespeople, nerds and children. Ian has exploited his first degree in statistics, and Masters degrees in Management Economics & IT to focus on aggressive and progressive businesses.
Whilst in Defence, he developed a framework for making decisions for superiority that he fought from gaining a top security classification. Political negotiation has also come into play when Ian headed an official 3 nation delegation dispersed over 20 countries for 4 months. He has facilitated hundreds of decision making meetings from the highest levels of the nation to the everyday person. Negotiating a stalemate at the Olympics is one of many interesting stories.
Negotiating business deals is now his regular fare. He still considers negotiation one of his weak areas.

Kay Lam-Beattie
Principal, IDEALAWKay combines her passion for IT and law by specialising in IT law. She has qualifications in Accounting and Law, but also completed a Masters in Law concentrating on the areas of intellectual property (IP) and IT-related legal issues, as well as a Graduate Certificate in IT. Kay’s philosophy in running IDEALAW is to provide practical legal help and advice that makes sense to geeks.
